The X and Y slides on our metal lathe have been a bit wobbly as of recent. So Alex took it apart:

But then was ready to tackle the worn out gibs:
And which worked rather nicely:

And if you wondered why we used such an odd washer (it is an idler from the Lathe) — rather than turn a fitting ring on the Lathe — well; think chicken & egg problems (or Yak Shaving if you are an IT type)

And it was found that the various gibs their surfaces where not quite as flat as they should be. So we used the Abene metal mill as a grinder:
 We stole the wheel from the big grinder; and it required some dressing first (which is a lot easier in the mill!):
